Book review · Red Sistémica
Héctor Fernández Álvarez and Roberto Opazo have each put forward an integrative model; with this book, they are no longer seeking to spread their own, but to gather together the expressions of the Latin-language integrative movement and make them available to the Spanish-speaking reader. Herbert J. Chappa reports on it for Perspectivas Sistémicas: demanding content, answering a need that had long been felt.
Editor’s note
Red Sistémica publishes here a fragment of the review; the original refers the reader to issue no. 87 of Perspectivas Sistémicas for the complete commentary.
Commenting on a book by such distinguished authors makes one think, automatically, that one is going to find oneself before substantial and demanding content. As I was able to verify, my automatic thought suffered no distortion whatsoever.
Of those who steered it, with whom I have shared conferences and congresses, united by common interests, it is difficult to add adjectives they have not already claimed: Héctor Fernández Álvarez and Roberto Opazo are known for a professional and teaching career that has gone beyond the borders of their respective countries, reaching a recognised international standing, and more specifically for their contributions to the central theme of the book — integration in psychotherapy — through their respective integrative models.
They are pioneers of the integrative movement that was institutionally consolidated in the 1980s with the creation of SEPI, the society for the exploration of psychotherapy integration. They are, moreover, among the founders of the more recent World Psychotherapy Association, whose 4th congress will be held in Buenos Aires next August.
With this book, they have given shape to a new aim, which is no longer to spread their own models, but to gather together the expressions of the Latin-language integrative movement and to place it at our disposal, answering a need that had long called for it.
