Parentification: when to worry and what to do

We can certainly wrong our children by failing to fulfil our obligations towards them. But we can also wrong them by asking too much of them.

We are going to look at a relational phenomenon that is not as rare as we might think.

The phenomenon

Children who insidiously begin to take on functions that should belong to their parents: this is what we call “parentification”.
