Ah, siblings! A fascinating universe, full of myths, rivalries and sometimes even unexpected solidarity. We have all heard the popular belief that brothers and sisters should love each other unconditionally. But where does this myth come from?
Within a sibling group, love is not automatic and, as Dr Robert Neuburger points out, rivalry is often more present than affection. Perhaps it is a social construction that leads us to believe that blood ties must necessarily translate into flawless harmony. As therapists, we know that reality is far more nuanced.
