Continuous traumatic stress
Life in a war environment often means repeated exposure to traumatic events: the loss of loved ones, bombardments, precarious conditions of survival. This stress can lead to post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSD) in both partners, affecting their capacity to communicate and to respond to one another emotionally. PTSD often provokes irritability, insomnia and a loss of interest in life — symptoms that undermine the quality of the relationship.
