The thousands of books and tens of thousands of articles devoted to it bear witness: psychology enjoys undeniable enthusiasm. That said, when you set out to discover it, as if stepping into Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, the sheer profusion could make your head spin, without even knowing where to begin. What to taste first? Will I enjoy this subtly flavoured sweet if my palate is not yet trained? Will I be able to savour that marvellous 70% dark chocolate without having learned to detect its notes of nutmeg, jasmine or liquorice?

Our lives are priceless mines of initiatory experiences, from which we could all draw wonderful stories. There is no need, for that matter, to have travelled to the other side of the world, or to have lived through events of extreme intensity, to have gone through such experiences. Recall the most significant lessons of your existence, but also those that might seem the least memorable. How did you learn to love sport, endives, books, TV series, wine or poetry?

I remember the period of my life when I learned to love coffee. My grandmother would prepare it for me meticulously, with cream, a little sugar, and above all at the same time as the adults, the initiated, so we could share that moment together.

This is, in essence, exactly what I am offering you here: a way into psychology that is pleasant, fluid, stimulating and indulgent. Three books, the objects of my very personal choice.
